TES Counselor: Mrs. Horton
Hi, my name is Amber Horton and I’m excited to begin my second year as school counselor at Tatum Elementary. I value my role as a support to students and a collaborator with staff and parents to ensure your child's daily success. If your child is experiencing challenges that are impacting their success at school, or a particular concern arises, please let me know. I want your child's elementary experience to be one where they feel safe, loved, and successful!
So what do school counselors do?
Guidance Curriculum-Lessons and skills taught that assist in the development of student academic, personal and social growth.
Individual Student Planning- Meeting with individual students to develop goals and plans that facilitate personal growth.
Goal-setting/decision-making
Academic planning
Education in understanding of self, including strengths and weaknesses
Responsive Services--Intervenes on behalf of any student whose immediate personal issues impede his/her education
Individual and small group counseling
Individual/family/school crisis intervention
Peer facilitation & mediation
System Support--This component includes ways the counselor supports the goals and objectives of the school in the areas of academics, personal, social, and emotional well-being.
